For Robert Mondavi Winery, we created a suite of products across the entire campus. We worked directly with the general contractor across all scopes and coordinated heavily with the architect for the lighting and the designer for the sculpture.
Concreteworks has the ability to provide multiple services and products within a single hospitality project. In this case, we delivered three visually distinct solutions, each designed to serve a different purpose across the winery while maintaining the same level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
LANDSCAPE SCULPTURE
Developed in collaboration with Contagious®, this large-scale concrete sculpture was created for the winery garden as a landscape installation. Inspired by the surrounding valley and mountain topography, the sculptural form reflects the natural contours of the site, creating a distinctive focal point within the landscape.
To realize the scale and complexity of the design, we developed a detailed 3D model and fabricated the sculpture as a two-part concrete assembly. Using our in-house 5-axis CNC mill, we produced precision molds that allowed the complex geometry to be translated accurately.
VINO LIGHTS
Developed in collaboration with Aidlin Darling Design and Boyd Lighting, the Vino Lights are a series of custom concrete pendant fixtures. Inspired by the form of a wine bottle, each pendant features an open-bottom design that directs light downward while preserving the character of the concrete.
The exterior surface transitions from a smooth finish at the top to a rough, pocketed texture toward the base. Small perforations within the textured surface allow light to filter through the concrete, creating a soft glow that highlights the material’s depth and texture.
Created within a tight project timeline, this project was centered on material exploration with a strict budget and accelerated schedule. We cast, reviewed, and refined the pendants daily until the finish gradient was just right. The result was a production run of 20 handcrafted concrete pendants.
