As an extension of the Exploratorium, Surface Design created these large permanent art installations that act as both educational tools and places for people to play, relax, and enjoy the views. The forms are abstractions of barnacles that live in the bay adjacent. They have a custom linear pattern that was built into the form and are also lit with LED's from below that give a nighttime glow.
